Scenario.
Utopi always believe in a quality proof of concept before adding new innovations to our award-winning product offering. We want data integrity to stay at the heart of all our innovations. So when it was time to test our new Smart Panel Heaters and measure impact, we chose a PBSA asset with a history of overheating.
Proof of Concept.
Utopi installed Smart Panel Heaters in 10 spaces across different floors for a one month period so we could monitor changes and analyse the data compared to other spaces in the asset. We set maximum temperatures in those 10 spaces as 22°C via The Utopi Platform to track the energy reduction, and the impact was clear within those four November weeks.
Results.
Comparing energy consumption across the proof of concept spaces in the 2023 heating season versus the 2024 heating season with Utopi Smart Panel Heaters, the impact was clear:
2023 Heating Season –
- Mean room temperature: 25.3°C
- Mean external temperature: 6.2°C
- Mean Consumption kW/room/day: 11.2
- % of rooms above 24°C: 36%
2024 Heating Season –
- Mean room temperature: 22.8°C
- Mean external temperature: 6.6°C
- Mean Consumption kW/room/day: 5.9
- % of rooms above 24°C: 8%
The success of the proof of concept saw our Automated Temperature Control offering rolled out in 2024 to over 1,700 beds in the UK and Ireland.
