Utopi at the ESG Summit.

Paving the Way for Engaging Residents and Changing Behaviours.

The ESG Summit 2023 was an event filled with insights, innovation, and collaboration. It brought together leaders, industry experts, and change-makers to explore the latest trends, strategies, and challenges in ESG practices... and the realities of what that means in real estate.

A key focus of the discussion was Utopi's innovative Changing Behaviours Programme, where Utopi takes a deeper look into engaging and changing resident behaviours for a more sustainable future. The real-world impact of this programme was evident in a detailed breakdown of its progress over a three-week period.

Utopi's Head of Impact, Stuart Paterson, took the stage, sharing valuable insights on student living, changing behaviours, and the realities of greener living alongside Laura Starkey, Asset Manager at City Developments Limited. They did a deep dive into the data, into the baselines of behaviour Utopi’s 4.2 billion data set is showcasing, and explored their partnership in a landmark campaign entitled, Progress to Pizza.

A case study: Novel Student x Progress to Pizza.

As the first of it’s kind, alongside Laura Starkey and the brilliant team at Novel Student; in the summer of 2023, we kicked off our first changing behaviours campaign. Laura had a target asset, and it was over the 21°C recommended average temperature.

The goal? Reduce the temperature from 24°C to 21°C through active incentivisation with the residents, and reduce energy consumption.

A mission with sustainability foundations, our goal was to reduce the carbon emissions of student accommodation by engaging residents, educating them on their environmental impact, and offering free pizza as a reward. After all, it’s key to know your audience!

The ESG Summit 2023 was a testament to the growing importance of sustainable business practices. From thought-provoking discussions to practical case studies, the summit provided a comprehensive overview of the current state and future possibilities of ESG integration. As we navigate the complexities of a changing world, the insights gained from the ESG Summit will undoubtedly guide businesses toward a more sustainable, ethical, and responsible future.
