Data Story

High Consumption

Comparing multiple data metrics uncovered high electricity consumption.

See above for a graph comparing electricity usage in kWh, over a select period of time to neighbouring kitchen living diner spaces (KLDs).

Scenario.

Comparing different metrics from the Utopi Multisensor can identify outliers in the amount of energy being consumed. In this instance, we were using temperature as a proxy for energy consumption.

Our report identified a number of kitchen living diners (KLDs) where electricity consumption was greater than the site average, and higher than neighbouring KLD’s.

One KLD in particular stood out from the others, consuming 75% more electricity than the site average. Comparing this outlier to two other neighbouring KLDs over a 30-day period, it consumed an additional 1500kWh in electricity.

For context, this is 6x the consumption of an average UK family home…

Resolution.

Empowered with Utopi insights, and real world data from their asset, the Operator inspected the KLD and found that a group of students were running an ironing service from the space. Not only that, but they had installed two gaming simulators. Hence the reason for such high energy consumption.

The real value of Utopi allowed site teams to pinpoint the highest consumers of energy, and take immediate action to reduce overall consumption.

The result? A reduction in carbon emissions, and in turn Operational Costs.
